The story

Film making has always been something I've really enjoyed. Since the first time my dad brought home a Panasonic PV-21D-K VHSC Palmcorder I couldn't keep my hands off it. Making mini movies and shows all edited with two VHS machines. It was only natural to start filming snowboarding with my brother and friends. When snowboarding became a little more serious for me I invested in a new Canon ZR-60 Mini DV Camcorder. Myself as well as my brother and Andrew Skelhorn filmed and edited an experimental film called "Onterrible". That following season at the Canadian Nationals in Quebec my dads brand new truck was stolen right out of our hotel parking lot. We had snowboards and other gear inside and most importantly the Camcorder. Upon receiving the cheque from our insurance company I upgraded to a Canon GL2 Mini DV Camcorder. Once the new season began we starting filming again with the new camera. I released my first official video called "ILOVEU" and featured myself, my brother, Andrew Skelhorn, Chris Powling, Steve Cartwright, Andrew Hull, and friends. It went over really well so I knew that I wanted to make a sequel. The next year I released "ILOVEUTOO". I dealt with many camera issues that year and there was a lot lost shots due to that. The video still came together nicely and featured myself, my brother, Andrew Skelhorn, Steve Cartwright, Andrew Burns, Tom Derry, and friends. Once "ILOVEUTOO" was finished I new I had to replace my faulty GL2. After careful consideration I upgraded to a Panasonic DVX-100b Mini DV cam. With its film like quality I fell in love with this camera and began experimenting with other types of filming and all the settings it provided. That year my brother and I filmed together and edited a shared part for GLC's video "If Looks Could Kill". With everyone in professional snowboarding moving to HD and wanting to upgrade to HD myself I sold my DVX and purchased a Panasonic HVX200. I fell in love all over again with this new cam. Taking what I had learned from my DVX I went out and filmed for a totally new project called "RUSKfilm presents...". This time around I also experimented with new ways of filming including using a dolly and cable cam. I also changed the format of the video to have segments and not rider parts. It features myself, my brother, Brad Gauley, Andrew Skelhorn, Steve Powling, Ryan "Smolik" Helstern, Jake Fine and Matt Konings. Looking outside of snowboarding I have also filmed a wedding, a special company event, and a couple of behind the scenes promo videos for Metric and The Love Willows. I am hoping to branch out even more and continue to learn in the future.
